In an announcement Seven Spires fans have been awaiting, the band has officially named Dylan Gowan as their permanent drummer. This comes nearly a year after the departure of Chris Dovas, who had been an integral part of the band’s lineup. In August 2023, the band shared the news of Chris’s departure during a memorable performance at Mad With Power Fest VI, posting on their social media: “Thank you so much everyone who was there with us at Mad With Power Fest VI last night! It was an important celebration of time shared and new beginnings, and we are so happy you were there as part of this moment in Spires history. This was the show we announced the departure of our now ex-drummer Chris Dovas. We are extremely happy for him and wish him nothing but the best for the future.” The band also took a moment to express their gratitude to those who made the festival possible and hinted at the exciting future ahead. This left fans curious about who would be filling Chris’s shoes.
Despite Chris’s departure, he left his mark on the band’s latest album, A Fortress Called Home, completing his drum tracks before exiting. After the announcement of his departure, Seven Spires took some time to find a suitable replacement, and earlier this year, they introduced fans to their touring drummer, Dylan Gowan, through a social media Reel. This sparked excitement and speculation among fans, as Dylan’s performance chops were undeniable, but it was unclear if he would step into the role full-time.
As Seven Spires wrapped up their extensive tour dates in Europe and the U.S., including a few shows with Kamelot earlier this year, the buzz around Dylan’s potential permanent position continued to grow. Fans eagerly awaited confirmation, and today, the band made it official. In a statement on their Facebook account, they said, “We are extremely happy and proud to officially welcome Dylan Gowan as the permanent drummer of Seven Spires. Dylan is truly the complete package. His musical abilities and relentless determination more than speak for themselves. During our tours and travels together this year, we were also elated to find a great friend in him 😊.” This news was met with enthusiasm across social media platforms, with fans expressing their excitement for the band’s future.
Dylan himself shared his thoughts on the news, expressing his happiness and gratitude for the opportunity. “Playing with Seven Spires throughout this year has been a fantastic experience. I couldn’t be happier to share the stage with them,” he said. “As of today, I will be joining Seven Spires full-time as their new drummer! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us and to create more lifelong memories with the band on and off the road. I look forward to seeing you all on our upcoming tour in Japan!” His excitement is palpable, and his statement suggests that the band’s synergy is stronger than ever.
Having already seen Dylan’s performance with Seven Spires during their show with Kamelot this past April left a lasting impression.
His drumming not only showcased technical prowess but also brought a new energy to the band that fans and critics alike couldn’t help but notice. The chemistry between Dylan and the rest of the band was evident, making today’s announcement a logical and highly anticipated move. The decision to bring Dylan on board full-time seems to have been in the making for some time, with both the band and fans recognizing that he was the perfect fit.
In a recent interview I had with the band, questions about Dylan’s future with Seven Spires were met with playful yet telling responses. When I asked how the search for a permanent drummer was going, Jack joked, “Pretty good I think!” Adrienne, with a laugh, added, “I can’t even really say wholeheartedly it’s even going on, but Dylan is really cool!” Jack further elaborated, “The more we are around him and the more time we have to think about it, the more it’s feeling pretty right, and I think something would have to go pretty wrong at this point to change that. Or, he decides he doesn’t like us anymore…We’ll see, it’s been known to happen, we’ll see what I can do!” This light-hearted exchange hinted at the decision that has now become official, solidifying Dylan’s place in Seven Spires as they continue to make waves in the metal scene.
