Berlin’s psychedelic heavyweights KADAVAR have always walked the line between the raw pulse of rock and the immersive trance of sonic exploration. But with today’s release of their new single Regeneration, they don’t just flirt with transformation—they dive headfirst into it. The track marks a pivotal shift, one that tears down everything familiar to make way for something primal, stripped-back, and emotionally magnetic.
New guitarist Jascha Kreft brings not just fresh blood, but a fresh vision, honoring the band’s legacy while charging into unexplored territory. His presence, along with the band’s newfound focus on emotional clarity and minimalism, has cracked open a new creative universe. It’s music that still hits hard but aims deeper—more cerebral, more spiritual, and more sonically fearless than ever before.
With Regeneration, KADAVAR isn’t just previewing a new album—they’re issuing a declaration. This is a band reborn, not shackled by their past but propelled by it. If this is the sound of starting over, then the rest of I Just Want to Be a Sound promises to be the kind of journey that doesn’t just play through your speakers—it rewires them.
The single’s release follows the unveiling of the album’s title track and the hauntingly urgent Hysteria, both of which hinted at Kadavar’s expanding palette—equal parts introspective and explosive. But Regeneration is the moment where everything clicks. The fuzz-laden riffs have been dialed back in favor of textured minimalism, layered vocals, and a heartbeat rhythm that feels more human than mechanical. It’s the sound of a band peeling away the excess and getting to the core of what it means to feel.
With album release shows slated for London, Paris, and their hometown Berlin, and a major festival slot confirmed at Austin Psych Fest 2025, KADAVAR is positioning themselves not just as torchbearers of a movement, but as architects of their own sonic future. I Just Want to Be a Sound isn’t just an album—it’s a statement of intent. And if Regeneration is any indication, KADAVAR’s next chapter won’t just be heard—it’ll be felt, deep in the marrow.

April 4, 2025 – Berlin, Germany – Berlin-based rock band Kadavar has released a new single from their upcoming album, I Just Want To Be A Sound, out May 16 via Clouds Hill. Fans can now stream and watch the music video for “Regeneration”.
“This song celebrates change and new beginnings,” says guitarist Jascha Kreft.”When I joined the band, I had nothing but respect for how eager they were to push their vision forward rather than simply replicating their past work. It feels like we’re just getting started, and I can’t wait to see where we’re headed next.”
“Regeneration” is a powerful indicator of Kadavar’s evolving sound on their upcoming album. The band has undergone a significant transformation, embracing a bold new sonic direction. Over the past 15 years, Kadavar has morphed from retro-psychedelic stoner rockers into boundary-pushing sonic explorers, consistently defying expectations. Their latest shift—marked by a stripped-down, raw intensity—sees them shedding the past and embracing the unknown. With their signature blend of chaos and beauty, the new sound transcends genre and speaks directly to the core of the human experience.
The single follows the release of “Hysteria” and the album’s title track. Fans can stream all three singles here and watch the music videos on YouTube.
I Just Want To Be A Sound is a manifesto for freedom, transformation, and radical presence—an album that repeatedly reinvents itself. Rock anthems, ballads, pop songs, and epic soundscapes alternate seamlessly and virtuously, creating a record that feels both free and full of momentum.
The tracks have already gained significant traction, landing on top playlists across Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and TIDAL. It’s been featured on Metal Injection’s Top Tracks of the Week, Fresh Noise, New in Rock, Hot New Rock, and more.
“I Just Want To Be A Sound” is more than a song to us—it’s the essence of Kadavar: a relentless yearning for freedom and the unshakable urge to live through music. We poured everything into it—our lives, our spirit, our truth,” the band shares in a joint statement.
Now a four-piece led by founders Lupus Lindemann and Tiger Bartelt, joined by guitarist Jascha Kreft and bassist Simon ‘Dragon’ Bouteloup, Kadavar’s declaration I Just Want To Be A Sound was inspired by a conversation in 2013. When Lindemann and Bartelt asked Bouteloup why he didn’t have any social media accounts, he simply replied: “I just want to be a sound.” The phrase stuck—and over the band’s 15-year journey, it has become a guiding principle: to be completely absorbed in their music, free from distraction or compromise.
From their early days as credible purveyors of retro-psychedelic stoner rock—embodying the contemporary coolness of Berlin’s hedonistic scene—to becoming globe-trotting sonic adventurers, Kadavar’s evolution has been driven by relentless creativity. With extensive touring and genre-defying performances, their music has become increasingly contemporary, shaped by the experience of the road and their ever-expanding creative vision.

Kadavar have built a steadily growing fan base that worships them as heroes and follows their every move across five continents. Their successes speak volumes: their last two records landed in the top ten of the German album charts; they’ve written songs for Wolfmother and, most recently, Fantastische Vier. They’ve performed with Ozzy Osbourne and the Scorpions and headlined tours around the globe. The fact that the band now sounds surprisingly different in 2025 should come as no surprise to anyone who has observed their previous incarnations. Change has always been a constant for Kadavar. What remains unchanged is their raw power. Wherever they go, you can feel the intensity – in their songwriting, their dedication, their performances. In the sound! This is the transfer that makes Kadavar incomparable. They explore the potential of music, even in quiet nuances, while always retaining the power of their rock roots. Having grown as a band, they have fulfilled their mission of being completely immersed in their sound.
