After five years between standalone releases, Breaking Benjamin have returned with “Something Wicked,” a towering new anthem drenched in atmosphere, tension, and the kind of emotional weight that has defined the band for more than two decades. The track arrives following its live debut this past weekend in front of a massive crowd at Welcome to Rockville, where fans got the first taste of what appears to be the beginning of an even darker chapter for the band.

Built around simmering verses, massive guitars, and a slow-burning sense of unease that eventually erupts into a soaring chorus, “Something Wicked” feels like a deliberate evolution of the sound that made Breaking Benjamin one of modern hard rock’s most enduring names. Benjamin Burnley’s unmistakable vocals shift between fragile restraint and explosive intensity, carrying the song through waves of haunting melody and crushing instrumentation. There’s a cinematic weight hanging over the track from beginning to end and it’s that kind of song that feels designed to echo through arenas long before the final chorus hits.



Breaking Benjamin described the single as “a quick look into our influences both musically and thematically,” adding that they challenged themselves harder than ever during the writing process, pushing beyond every previous boundary they had set for themselves. That ambition is palpable through every second of the track. There’s darker textures, sharper dynamics, and a more cinematic approach that still never loses the identity fans have connected with since Saturate first arrived back in 2002.

The release also continues the momentum sparked by 2024’s “Awaken,” which exploded to #1 on the Rock Digital Songs chart and landed across multiple Billboard rankings including Hot Hard Rock Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, Hard Rock Songs, and Digital Song Sales. Since then, the single has surpassed 117 million global streams, proving Breaking Benjamin never lost an ounce of their staying power.

At this point, the numbers behind the band’s legacy are staggering. Across their career, Breaking Benjamin have earned ten #1 rock radio hits, multiple platinum and multi-platinum releases, over 8.5 billion worldwide streams, and a social reach topping 6.5 million followers. Albums like Phobia, Dear Agony, Dark Before Dawn, and Ember helped cement the band as one of the defining forces in 21st century hard rock, balancing massive hooks with emotional honesty and crushing heaviness in a way few bands have managed to replicate.

Now, “Something Wicked” feels like the first crack in the door toward whatever comes next — and if this single is any indication, the band are not interested in playing things safe.

Fans will also be able to catch the song live later this year as Breaking Benjamin head out on a massive U.S. fall tour beginning September 2 in Camden and running through late October in Bristow. Support on the trek will come from Chevelle, Starset, and Kami Kehoe.
