Twenty years after Foiled helped propel Blue October into a defining chapter of their career, the Houston, Texas rockers are looking back while continuing to push forward. Today, Blue October announced the upcoming release of Storytelling, an intimate acoustic performance recorded in 2021 and hosted by longtime music journalist and television personality Matt Pinfield. The previously unreleased-in-full performance will arrive on vinyl and DVD on November 6, giving fans the opportunity to experience one of the band’s most stripped-down and emotionally direct performances in a completely new way.

Recorded in June 2021, Storytelling places Blue October’s songwriting firmly at the center of the experience. Removed from the scale and volume of a traditional rock performance, the acoustic setting allows the emotional weight behind the band’s music to come through with an immediacy that makes these songs feel deeply personal.
Frontman Justin Furstenfeld leads a lineup featuring drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, multi-instrumentalist Ryan Delahoussaye, bassist Matt Noveskey, and special guest guitarist Will Knaak. Together, the musicians revisit 14 performances spanning some of Blue October’s most recognizable songs alongside deeper cuts that longtime fans will appreciate.
Among the highlights are intimate renditions of “Hate Me,” “Into the Ocean,” and “I Hope You’re Happy,” while songs such as “All That We Are” and “The Weatherman” offer an opportunity to hear less frequently spotlighted material in a setting perfectly suited to the band’s introspective songwriting.
Adding another layer to the performance is Matt Pinfield, who serves as host and guide throughout the evening. With decades of experience as a radio personality, music journalist, and television host, Pinfield has built a career around connecting audiences with artists and the stories behind their music. His presence makes Storytelling more than a collection of acoustic performances; it becomes a conversation surrounding the songs and the experiences that shaped them.
“It was an absolute honor to be a part of Blue October’s emotional, intimate performance of these powerful, revealing songs! It was an incredible night,” Pinfield reflected.
For collectors, Storytelling will mark the first time this special performance has been made available on vinyl. The release will include three editions created specifically for fans, with the Deluxe Edition, 2LP Colored Vinyl, and DVD each featuring the complete 14-performance set.
The timing couldn’t be more fitting.
Blue October are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of Foiled, the landmark 2006 album that remains one of the most important records in the band’s catalog. The anniversary celebration began in Europe in May, where the band performed Foiled in its entirety each night, and the celebration now heads into an extensive North American run.
The 69-show North American leg of the 20th Anniversary World Tour begins October 22 in Abilene, Texas, with Danny Malone supporting through November 15 before Jess Woodland joins the tour beginning November 17. Several dates have already sold out, including Albany, Cleveland, and Philadelphia, while a newly added December 20 performance in Houston gives fans another opportunity to catch the band on home turf.
For Blue October, the anniversary isn’t simply about revisiting the past. It is a chance to celebrate how far the band has traveled while continuing to connect with the songs and audiences that have sustained them for decades.
And with Storytelling finally receiving its physical release, fans will soon have another way to experience the more intimate side of that journey.
