There was no warning. No lengthy rollout. Just “Mourning” — and wow, Spiritbox know how to make an entrance.

Released just hours ago, Mourning is an emotionally explosive and hauntingly beautiful new chapter for one of modern metal’s fastest-rising forces. The track arrives as Spiritbox continue riding the massive wave created by their 2025 sophomore album, Tsunami Sea, an album that further cemented their ability to balance crushing heaviness with atmosphere, vulnerability and unforgettable melody.

And their momentum has been impossible to miss.

Spiritbox earned their third consecutive GRAMMY nomination this year, performed on the GRAMMY stage, and continued expanding their reach through collaborations that have placed them far beyond the traditional boundaries of heavy music — including Courtney LaPlante joining Amy Lee and Poppy for End of You.

That connection with Lee became even more fitting this summer when Spiritbox hit the road as direct support for Evanescence’s massive North American tour.

I had the opportunity to witness that pairing myself at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey, on June 20, and seeing Spiritbox command a massive amphitheater stage before Evanescence was another reminder of just how far this band has come. They didn’t feel like an opening act. They felt like a band who is more than ready for the next level.

Now, that next level is happening.

Mourning arrives just days before Spiritbox launch their Tsunami Sea European and UK headline tour, their biggest European headline shows to date. Beginning September 12 in Glasgow, the run will take the band through major venues across the UK and Europe with Jinjer and Dying Wish joining the journey.

And somehow, dropping a song this emotionally devastating right before that tour feels exactly right.

Mourning is atmospheric, vulnerable and enormous — a song that doesn’t need to rely entirely on sheer aggression to leave a mark. It builds tension, pulls you inward and then reminds you exactly why Spiritbox have become one of the most compelling bands in heavy music today.

From Eternal Blue to Tsunami Sea, from Grammy stages to massive amphitheaters, Spiritbox have spent the last several years turning momentum into something much bigger.
