Before one should read this review, it should be known that I am not the best when it comes to black metal. I guess it was never really my taste in metal. With that said, good music is good music and Hor knows how to work with this genre, mashing together the dark, cold production of traditional black metal with a bit of Greek flavor to spice things up.

The main thing that I liked about this EP and what I want to focus on is the instrumentation one the four tracks. It is arguably a refreshing surprise to see someone having some creativity within the music itself. Listening to the instrumentation, I found myself second guessing where it was going to go and be thrilled at where it went. I am curious to see where this would go in future albums, but that’s the main take away from this short release.

Vocally, I was impressed with constantly going to the high end of the range spectrum and the occasional use of narration adds a nice change of pace. But my biggest issue is the lack of understanding to what is being sung. It is a bit on the difficult side to be clear when performing black metal, but there are times when I was able to pick up on what was being performed, but very muddled here and there. If the vocals were a bit clearer, then I would be all for this release.

There is something special here and what I would like to see expanded. For those who value black metal, best to keep this release in sight. Something is going to form with this group and I doubt one would want to miss it.
